It has been 30 years since the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a leading film company and introducing viewers to beloved characters like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat coming to replace them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a fair and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.

Certainly, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him appear in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is a little strange, though. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Last Installment

At the very least, some aspects are carrying over from the prior film. The final act Woody did before setting off for his fresh path was pass his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

It is hoped she is remains the key figure among the toys.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
